Happy Chinese New Year!
Internet issues on the homefront meant I wasn’t able to get this post up earlier. Lucky for me, the Chinese New Year festivities go on for 15 days so this still counts.
A few weeks ago, my friend Angela sent me this postcard. My own little piece of China to help celebrate and also maybe my first postcard from Asia.
I know this is boring news to everyone else, but yesterday we got another ice day here in Austin. Two in within a week! That means I’m sipping hot chocolate and working from home in my pajamas.

I bet a lot of you didn’t know it, but yesterday was Australia Day! Ironically, it’s a celebration of the anniversary of British colonization of Australia…but apparently it’s a fun time, political correctness aside. My impression is that Australia Day is akin to the American Columbus Day, but with more of an Independence Day kind of flair. At least that’s how we celebrated Australia Day in America.
I don’t usually feature breaking news here on the blog — I usually don’t have any — but today seemed like a good opportunity to share the latest. Winter has officially arrived in Austin.
2013 was good to me by all accounts. I visited 2 new continents and 3 new countries, finished my master’s degree, and got engaged to one hell of a man. It was a west-coast kind of year, making a bunch of trips to California locales, including several that were new to me. Plus an epic trip to Hawaii which made use of my scuba certification and made me fall in love with poke and ramen.
