Road trip: San Francisco to Austin

2,270+ miles and 35 hours of driving later, Brian and I are back after our road trip from San Francisco to Austin.

We went from downtown San Francisco to Yosemite, the Las Vegas strip to the Grand Canyon. We saw both a Cirque du Soleil show and tumbleweed. We had views from the top of the Grand Canyon to the depths of Carlsbad Caverns. We spent some nights in a tent and others at the MGM Grand.

It was a big adventure and I only ended up driving about a mile of it. Doesn’t get any better than that.

Glad to be able to spend some time in Austin with Brian before he continues on to Florida. I’ll share more about our stops starting next week. In the meantime, enjoy this Grand Canyon sunrise…

and this New Mexico sunset.

Sometimes it’s good to know that wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, the sun still rises and sets right on schedule.

  1. What a fun trip, and what sights you saw. You don’t mention gambling in Vegas — you either were too smart to try, or you lost.
Love the pictures. I too was in awe of the Grand Canyon and Yosemite (years ago). And Cirque du Soleil? I’m still trying to figure out exactly what I saw, but it was mind-bending. Thanks for your report.

    • Very observant, Ellen. We did a tiny bit and lost. I did learn how to house gets the advantage in roulette, though (those pesky green pockets). The slots we played were no better. We were too smart to play thinking we would win, at least.
